Gerald Genta for Van Cleef & Arpels: Wooden, And A Little Known Piece of 1970s Genta History

It seems like we were just talking about Gerald Genta, doesn't it? That's because we were, just a two weeks ago. His newest project with Swedish startup Arlanch was previewed. But that was Genta of the year 2011. The decade that most associate with Genta is the 1970s. We're talking three icons in ten years; the Royal Oak, the Nautilus, and the Ingenieur SL. But that's not all Genta designed in the 1970s. He also created a limited number of pieces for Van Cleef & Arpels, and that's exactly what we've found today. The piece is made of wood - real wood. The caseback, crown, and dial-ring are all 18k yellow gold, as are the screws which seemingly hold the block of wood to the golden caseback. Screws are, of course, one of Genta's favorite aesthetics, and it's no surprise we see them here. Inside is a manually wound VC&A mechanical movement, and it retains its original yellow gold VC&A signed buckle. The caseback is numbered and marked "Gerald Genta", just in case you had any doubts about who hcould produce a timepiece such as this.
